Radieohead Concert in Israel, Reaping Protest From Dozens of Artists


As reported by various sites, dozens of artists including Roger Waters have asked Radiohead to cancel his concert plans in Israel, on Monday (24/4), Roger also said that the band known for his support for left-wing politics should follow the calls of activists in Palestinians to boycott Israel.
The British rock band is famous among the 90s is scheduled to play in Tel Aviv on July 19, 2017, as a cover of the tour that includes music festivals Coachella and Glastonbury.
Previously, Radiohead had participated in a charity concert to support the enforcement of Tibetan and Amnesty International human rights and the fight for climate change.
"Given that Radiohead is campaigning for the freedom of the Tibetan people, we are wondering why you rejected the request to support other nations under foreign colonization," according to the contents of the artist's statement.
"For the sake of pleading with you not to appear in Israel, the Palestinians ask you to make small steps to help pressure Israel to stop violating fundamental rights and international law."
"Surely if taking a stand against all forms of political division, discrimination and hatred then that means it applies everywhere - and that should include what the Palestinians face every day," the statement said.
Waters, a former member of Pink Floyd and the figure behind the success of "The Wall", has been criticizing Israel for so long.
Other artists who signed the letter were novelists Alice Walker and Hari Kunzru, Thurston Moore of alternative rock bands United States Sonic Youth and Nick Seymour of the Australian rock group Crowded House.
Campaigns of cultural boycott against Israel show mixed results. Stevie Wonder, Carlos Santana and Lauryn Hill crossed out the show in Israel but many other big names like Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, Elton John and Bon Jovi have been there for years.
The Israeli Defender denounced the boycott campaign. Radiohead has not appeared in Israel since the year 2000, according to AFP news agency.
The former South African archbishop and Nobel Peace Prize laureate and anti-apartheid fighter Desmond Tutu also signed the letter.
